State Library of Kansas Digital Resources

Below is all the information you will need for finding eBooks and Audiobooks using a Kansas Library Card! Including how to get your own Kansas Library Card which is different than the library card you use at the Belle Plaine Public Library. The card you use for our physical books and materials in the library will not work for these resources.

Step 1:

Before getting started with these links you will need to contact us by email (bplib@sktc.net) for us to register you a card. Please send us a message with the following information: First/Last Name, Middle Initial, full Date of Birth and the email address you would like your card information sent to. We will get back with as soon as possible. Once you have received your login information you can move forward with accessing these sites and apps.

Step 2:

This page from the State Library of Kansas website has all of the information that you should need to download apps to your devices and troubleshoot any issues. Please feel free to contact us at any time though with questions and please contact us NOT the State Library.

Step 3:

Enjoy access to free eBooks and Audiobooks from your home! Here are some details about each app from the bottom of the link above to help you decide which one you might fit you best.

RBDigital is the only audiobook service available through the state, so if that is what you are looking for please start there. For ebooks, here are some notes to help you decide:

  • Cloud Library contains larger publishers, so you’ll see best sellers here. Nearly all fiction, so don’t choose this if you want nonfiction. If all copies of a book are checked out, you place a hold.
  • Freading All books are always available for checkout.  Lots of variety in both fiction and non-fiction, there are even graphic novels.  Smaller publishers, but the catalog has over 80,000 books in it and more are added at least once a week.
  • Enki includes self-published books in its catalog of small-medium publishers.  It also has a great variety of both fiction and non-fiction.  Cooking, crafts, and DIY have good selection.  Since the catalog is large (over 60,000 books) holds are uncommon or the list will be short.
